The Larynx

      The larynx is a really important organ for human speech and
singing. The tightness of the muscles changes the pitch of the voice
or sound that the larynx helps to create. The tighter the muscles
are, the higher the voice or sound. The looser the muscles are, the
lower the voice or sound. As men age, their larynx tightens and
their voices become deeper. For women, the older they get, the
higher their voices become.
      The larynx is part of the respiratory system. The location of
the larynx is at the top of your windpipe. The function of the larynx
is to create sound and prevent food from entering your airways.
Humans are the only mammals that can choke on their food. As you
get older the larynx changes its position. When you are a baby it is
harder for you to choke then when you are an adult, because the
